Garage Builds Geelong
A garage built solid, not just thrown up.
A garage is more than a car park. It's storage, a workshop, an extension of the house. I build garages properly, on a solid slab with a roof that stays straight, and a finish worth having.
From slab to roof, built to hold up for decades.
Across Geelong, Newtown, Highton and the Bellarine coast I build new garages and renovate existing ones. The difference between a garage that sags in five years and one that's still square in thirty is the preparation: the slab, the frame, the sequencing. That's where my time goes.
Whether it's a detached garage, an integrated one, or a rebuild of something tired, I'll tell you straight what your garage needs and what it should cost.

How a garage actually gets built.
A garage is a simple building, which is exactly why the slab and the frame decide everything. Get those right and it stays straight for decades. Rush them and it never quite sits true.
- 1
Site, access and what you need it for
I look at where it's going, how a truck and concrete pump will get in, and whether you want car storage, a workshop, or both. That decision changes the size and the ceiling height.
- 2
Permits and engineering if required
Many garages need a building permit. I'll tell you plainly whether yours does, and organise the engineering and surveyor sign-off rather than leaving you to chase it.
- 3
A slab built to carry the load
Properly excavated, compacted, with the right reinforcement for a slab that will hold a car, a hoist or a heavy bench. A slab poured thin is the single most expensive thing to fix later.
- 4
Frame, roof and the details that matter
Frame set square and braced, roof sheeted with correct fall and flashing where it meets the house, then door, guttering, downpipes and the finish to match your place.

What drives the price of a garage.
Two garages the same size can differ by tens of thousands depending on what's underneath and what's above. Here's what actually moves it.
Size and ceiling height
A single car space is a different job to a double with a high ceiling for a hoist or a mezzanine. Height adds frame, cladding and door cost.
The slab
This is where budget quietly disappears. Thickness, reinforcement, and how much excavation or fill the site needs all show up here before anything visible is built.
Access and site works
Tight side access, sloping ground, or a site needing retaining changes how much machinery and labour it takes to even begin.
Attached or detached
An attached garage has to tie into the house roof and structure. Detached is more forgiving, but needs its own footings and roof drainage.
Doors and openings
A standard roller door is the sensible baseline. Sectional, tilt, or a wider opening for a caravan or boat changes the structural opening required.
How it's finished
Cladding and roof material matched to your house, lining and power inside, or a fully fitted workshop. Each is a genuine addition, not padding.
Tell me the size, where it's going and what you want to use it for, and I'll give you a real number rather than a range that means nothing.

What to expect on a Geelong block.
Where your block sits in Geelong changes what a garage build involves, sometimes more than the garage itself does.
The hills in Highton and Wandana Heights
Sloping blocks mean retaining, stepped slabs or extra excavation before a single post goes in. It's real cost, but a garage cut into a slope can sit level with the house instead of floating above it.
Clay soil across the region
A lot of Geelong sits on reactive clay that moves with the seasons. Footings and slab reinforcement have to account for it, which is exactly the detail a cheap garage quote leaves out.
Tight blocks in the inner suburbs
Newtown, Geelong West, East Geelong and South Geelong have narrow side access, so getting a truck and concrete pump in can be the hardest part of the job. It's worth a site visit before any number means anything.
Tell me the suburb and whether your block slopes, and I'll have a fair idea what your garage is going to take.
