Carports Geelong
A carport that protects your car and suits your home.
Done properly, a carport is a simple, quality build: solid posts, straight roofline, guttering that actually drains. Done cheaply, it's a sagging eyesore within a few years. I build carports that last.
A straightforward outbuilding, worth doing right.
Across Geelong, Newtown, Highton and the Bellarine coast I build carports, both attached and freestanding, single and double. It's a smaller job, but it's one where the base, the posts and the drainage make all the difference to how long it lasts and how it sits with your home.
Whether you want to cover the car, extend an existing carport, or add covered storage out the back, I'll build it to match your place and outlast the cheap kits.

How a carport actually gets built.
It's a small job, but the order of it matters. Most carports that sag or leak within a few years went wrong at the start, not the end.
- 1
A look at the site and the house
I come out and look at where it's going, how the roof will tie in with your existing house, where the water will run, and whether you need a building permit for what you have in mind.
- 2
A clear scope and price before we start
You get the dimensions, the materials, the roof profile and the price in writing, with the allowance for footings and drainage set out plainly. No open-ended hourly rate.
- 3
Footings and posts set properly
This is the part nobody sees and the part that decides whether it lasts. Posts go into proper footings at the right depth for Geelong's clay, plumb and braced, not just dropped in and dynabolted to a slab.

Framing, roof and drainage
Rafters and beams set square, roof sheeted with the fall running away from the house, guttering and downpipes sized and connected so water actually leaves the site.

What drives the price of a carport.
A single attached carport and a double freestanding one with a different roof are very different jobs. Rather than quote a number I haven't measured, here's what actually moves the price.
Size and span
A single carport can often span on posts alone. A double needs beams or a deeper truss to hold the wider roof without sagging, and that's real structure.
Attached or freestanding
Attaching means tying into your existing roof and flashing it properly, which is straightforward when it's done well and a source of leaks when it isn't.
Footings and ground
Level ground on good soil is one thing. Sloping ground, rock, or a site that needs retaining or extra drainage adds work before a single post goes in.
Roof material
Corrugated steel is the sensible default in Geelong. A different profile or a translucent panel changes the material cost and the labour.
Permits
Smaller carports are often exempt, but anything larger, closer to a boundary or attached to the house can need a building permit and surveyor sign-off.
Drainage
Getting water from the carport roof to somewhere sensible, rather than pooling at the base of the posts, is the detail most cheap jobs skip.
If you want a straight answer on what your carport should cost, tell me the size and where it's going and I'll give you a real number, not a range.

Built for Geelong weather.
This region puts a carport through a lot. In the inner suburbs like Newtown, East Geelong, South Geelong and Geelong West the job is usually a tight side access and a structure that has to match an older house. Out on the coast it's wind and salt. Whatever gets built here needs to handle all of it.
Wind off the bay
Geelong and the Bellarine catch serious south-westerlies. A carport is a big sail if it's not braced and fixed down properly, and coastal suburbs like Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads cop the worst of it.
Hail and summer sun
The region gets hail most years and strong summer sun. Roof sheet thickness and the fall of the roof matter more here than in milder parts of the state, and both are things a cheap kit gets wrong.
Salt air near the coast
Closer to the water, fixings and fasteners need to be specified for coastal conditions or they'll corrode long before the structure does. It's a small line item that decides how the carport looks in ten years.
Tell me where you are and what you need covered, and I'll build one that's still straight after a few Geelong winters.
